2003-11-11 - Detroit
I was downtown and I think Detroit is a mess. But one of the most beautiful messes I have seen. Cities like Las Veags are brand new. Atlanta has preserved history and celebrations. Detroit has - a casino and new Hard Rock Cafe. I saw the house I grew up in and almost threw up. I saw my old elementary school, my old church and saw so much that meant so much to me. I have some pictures and I can not get over how absolutely beautiful some of Detroit is. There is a beauty in a broken down, boarded up, cracked out, building. The grand train station here is stunning. How a building that has seen so many things can look like such a blight is beyond me. I wish I could hear what the broken glass and the moss covered walls could say. Hotels that had parties that hosted powers of the car industry now boarded up like a old box. The old Tiger (baseball I think) was just literally abandoned (below) and new and INCREDIBLE field built that could make even the Gods jealous. INSANE!
